Joel Edward Schloss, 72, of Middletown, husband of Shirley (Garten) Schloss, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 13th at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Bristol, he was the son of the late Alexander and Dorothy (Steinberg) Schloss. Joel lived in Middletown since 1971, served in the US Airforce, was a member of Congregation Adath Israel Synagogue, Auxilary Vice President of B’Nai Brith, Charter member of the Jewish War Veterans Major General Maurice Rose Post 51 in Middletown, Assistant Vice Commander of Jewish War Veterans CT State Chapter, a member of Advisory Board of the proposed Middletown Veterans Museum, the Elks Lodge in Middletown and past President of the Middletown Civitan Organization. He established and coached a Special Olympic Little League Team in Middletown, was a literacy volunteer, life long Mets fan, an avid fisherman, a devoted family man and a very special grandfather. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons; David Schloss and his wife, Cynthia, of Cromwell and Richard Schloss and his wife, Kathleen, of Brooklyn, NY, one daughter; Ila Schloss and her companion, Kyia Bouchard of WI, and two grandchildren; Lily and Tyler Schloss. He was predeceased by a brother Lawrence J. Schloss.
