Joel lost a courageous battle to cancer at the age of 39, he was surrounded by his loved ones that will always cherish him by being the life of the party. Joel Arthur Cruz passed away at home under the care of his family & hospice on October 30, 2021.
Joel was born September 21, 1982 to Arthur Cruz & Cheryl Keidle Cruz in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was raised in State Center, Iowa, where he graduated from West Marshall HS. After High School Joel liked to travel & moved to Oklahoma for a time. He later returned home to State Center, Iowa. Joel then had his daughter Yale Cruz on May 6, 2005 in Ames, Iowa. While raising Yale he worked for American Airlines at the Des Moines International Airport and traveled all around the world eating anything new he could find. Joel loved to cook and spend time outside in his garden. Joel liked to party with friends & have a good time. During his time working for the airport he met his wife Courtney Jones Cruz. Joel married the love of his life, Courtney Cruz, on October 5, 2021. Before Joel passed away he worked for Des Moines Public Schools as a Custodian for an elementary school close to home.
Joel Cruz is survived by his daughter, Yale Cruz; his wife, Courtney Cruz; his mother & father, Cheryl Keidle Cruz & Arthur Cruz; his brother, Aric Cruz (Angie Cruz); his aunt Linda Arnold; his uncle Richard W Keidle (Somporn Keidle). Joel is preceded by his maternal grandparents Richard I Keidle & Josephine Keidle; his paternal grandmother, Sophia Cruz. Joel is also survived by his friends in the community whose lives are forever changed because of his witty & social personality.
