Mr. Joe W. Almon, Sr., 87, of Newnan passed away Monday, June 8, 2015, at Savannah Court. He was born January 1, 1928, in Heard County, GA to the late Herman Almon & Claudia Shirey Almon.
Mr. Joe was a veteran of the Air Force and was a member of Mills Chapel Baptist Church. He and his wife, Doris, operated LaGrange Street Grocery from the early 1950s until 1972. After closing the store, he worked at Newnan Water & Light in the water treatment plant until his retirement in 2005.
Survivors include wife, Doris Collins Almon; son, Joe Almon, Jr. & wife Deena; grandchildren, Tripp Almon & wife Megan, Zephie Freeman & husband Render, Christopher Almon & wife Dr. Elizabeth, Elizabeth Rose Almon; great-grandchildren, Neely, Rogan, Holly, Brighton, Bennett, Brooks, Adelyn, Lyndee, Topher; and sisters, Daisy Ellis, Elmer Blevens.
