Joe Thomas Carter, Sr.
Passed away on July 8, 2016 at the age of 89. He was born in Randolph County, AL on December 6, 1926, the son of Grady and Nancy Holmes Carter. He graduated from Woodland High School and went on to study business and received the Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration/Accounting from Jacksonville State University. During this time, he served in the U.S. Army at the end of World War ll, in the Pacific, as a part of the detachment to Gen. Douglas MacArthur in Tokyo. He later served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. After returning home, he was employed with Alabama Power Company as staff accountant for industrial accounts for 30 years. He was a member of Huffman Baptist Church for 40 years. He was a gifted basketball player in high school and college and an avid University of Alabama football fan. He loved most, his family, his grandchildren, and was always aware of the needs of others. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Wilma Cofield Carter and their infant son, John Anthony Carter. He is survived by his son, Joe T. Carter, Jr., his wife Kay and their son, Andrew of Trussville, AL.; his daughter, Nan Carter Bronnenberg, her husband Steve and their children, Jared, Emily and her fiancAC.
