We say farewell to a generous, loving, and gracious man. His bright light shines in those he left behind.

Joe Pierce Lowry passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 24, 2022. He was born January 13, 1943, to Ralph and Marguerite Lowry in Raton, NM. When he was a young man, he worked for his dad’s construction company as an ironworker. As a lifelong Albuquerque resident, he developed his own Native American arts and crafts business. During his many years in the industry, he created and promoted educational programs to help develop protections for Native American artistry and heritage.

He would meet the love of his life, raise his family, build his businesses, and enjoy retirement in Albuquerque. If you knew Joe, you knew that his life dramatically changed at the Griegos Library where at age 19 he met his Lady Katy. This story has been told many times over the years and was the last story he could always recall, even as the dementia stole away his other memories. Their love and faith were pillars on which they built their life.

Joe’s commitment to God and his faith were a daily walk. He enjoyed studying the Bible, discussing theology, and writing worship songs. His preaching always centered on living his life in love, truth, and mercy.

He was always a mediator, whether it was in a professional setting or sorting out family squabbles, he always wanted to hear both sides and see a fair ending. His integrity and faith were his guides in life.

His sense of humor was another way he related to others. His dry wit and puns were a constant enjoyment to those who knew him. As a family man, he never liked to see his children and grandchildren upset. He was known to mimic his grandchildren’s pouty faces until they smiled, or kid with them that he would pull a smile out of their big toe if they couldn’t muster one on their own.

Joe will be remembered by his wife Katy; children: Ellen (Chris), Joe Dan (Davonna), Kathleen (Voyko); grandchildren: Joseph (Brittany), Danielle, Jacob (Brittany), Kristi, Laura (William), Amanda (Zach); great-grandchildren: Jonathan, Sarah; mother-in-law Lil; and siblings: Mike (MaryLou), Bob (Jeanne), and Patty (Bob). He was preceded in death by parents Ralph and Marguerite; brother Ken; and father-in-law Zach.
