Joe Lewis was born on September 9, 1935 in Decatur, Alabama to the late Judge Lewis and Cordelia Elliott Lewis. He confessed hope in Christ at an early age and became a member of Ebenezer Church. Joe departed this life on Monday, November 4, 2013 at his residence.
In 1965 he was employed by Fruehauf Corporation and retired after 25 years of service. Upon retirement he worked an additional 3 years with Decatur Aluminum in Decatur, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his son, Joe Lewis Jr. and parents, Judge and Cordelia Lewis.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife of 52 years Margaret Lewis; seven children, Angela Cosey of Mobile, Belinda Adams of Decatur, Steven Lewis (Glenda) and Jackie Lewis both of Huntsville, Tyree Lewis, Christal Lewis, and Kathy Lewis all of Decatur; one brother, John Lewis (Estella) of Huntsville and three sisters; Anna Story and Juanita Turner both of Cleveland, Ohio, and Josephine Curry of Huntsville; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
