Joe Ortiz Guzman 69, a lifelong Grant County resident passed away Monday, January 11, 2016 at his home.

Joe was born on February 13, 1946 in Silver City to Celia Ortiz and Jose Fajardo Guzman. He served his country honorably, first as a member of the Army National Guard and then the United States Navy. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Rams. He loved camping, hunting, fishing, and riding horses. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his ability to make people laugh.

Joe is survived by his children Adrian (Michelle), Larry, and Anissa (Derry), his grandsons Adrian, Jeff, Jesse, Eric, and Rylynd and his granddaughter Stephanie and his ex-wife Rebecca. Also surviving him is his sister Gloria Shipp, his uncle and cousin who were more like brothers to him, Arnold Ortiz and Samuel Espinoza, his aunts Elvira Sauers, Stella Caldera, Mary Montoya and Josephina Torres and uncle Dionicio Ortiz Jr. He is also survived by many caring friends and caregivers who helped care for him during his long illness, Jenny Ferranti, Margarita, Darlene, Irene, Leslie, Vickie and Amanda.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents Jose and Celia, his sister Lupe Hernandez, his brothers Richard “Dickie” Guzman and Paul Guzman and his brother-in-law Pedro Hernandez.
