Joe Glen Heflin was born in Richland, Texas on September 20, 1926 to Alvie John Davis Heflin & Minnie Truman Rasco Heflin, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at a local nursing home at the age of 94.
Joe graduated from Doudy High School, Seguin, Texas as Salutatorian in 1944. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at Camp Hood (Fort Hood), Texas and was stationed in Germany until being honorably discharged in 1946. In 1947 he attended Southwestern Assemblies of God College in Waxahachie, Texas to pursue his education in the ministry and received his ordination certificate on June 17, 1954. He pastored several churches in Texas during his years in the ministry.
He pastored First Assembly of God Church in Belton from 1970 until 1973 before pastoring in Mineola, Texas until 1976. He returned to Belton in 1977 as the associate pastor of Belton First Assembly of God and served as Senior Care Pastor until his retirement in 2013. In 2006 he was honored by The General Council of the Assemblies of God for 50 years of dedicated service as an ordained minister.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Michael Harris.
Those left to honor, cherish his memory and carry on his legacy are his wife of 72 years (May 25, 1948), Sue Agnew Heflin; daughter, Susan Harris (Larry) of Salado; son, Glen Heflin (Janet) of Killeen; daughter, Carol Clements (Michael) of Salado; grandchildren Michelle Hudson (Weldon) of Belton; Scott Heflin (Tisha) of Houston; Crissi Heflin & Joe Heflin (Justine) of Killeen; A.J. Sommer (Rhonda) of Troy and Brett Sommer (Julie) of Houston; a sister, Marilyn Smith of West Columbia, Tx. Also survived by 15 great-grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
