Joe Crawford Penney Jr., November 26, 1928 – August 5, 2010.

Joe C. Penney, age 81, of Belton died Thursday in a Temple hospital. He will be cremated and burial in Refugio, Texas will be at a later date. He was born November 26, 1928 in Marathon, Texas to Joe C. and Hazel (Carter) Penney. He entered the Army in 1950 and served in Germany with the 2nd Armor Division “Hell On Wheels” as Sgt. 1st Class.

He married Jean Underwood on May 12, 1951 in Austin, Texas. He worked for Seismograph Companies as Crew Chief and Surveyor. He received his Registered Professional Survey license from the State of Texas. He was the county surveyor of Bee County for 14 years. He also worked for the Army Corp of Engineers at various COE parks for 13 years. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, bowling and traveling.

He was a Master Mason for 50 years plus. Survivors include his wife, Jean Penney of Belton; daughter, Nancy Jo Penney McDonald and husband Jimmie L. of Morgan’s Point Resort; son, James M. Penney of Huntsville; sister, Helen Farve of Beeville, 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
