Joanne Williams Strucher passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her children on Sunday, July 15, 2018.
Born on May 3, 1929, in Port Matilda, Pennsylvania, to Harriet Thelma Woodring and Paul Burton Williams. Joanne graduated from Baldwin High School, Baldwin, Long Island, New York, in 1946. Joanne then went on to graduate from Katharine Gibbs School, New York City in 1947. She worked for the Curtis Publishing Company in Philadelphia from 1947 until 1949. In 1953 Joanne graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a B.A. degree in Journalism.
Joanne married John James (Jack) Strucher on September 19, 1953, in Philadelphia. Joanne and Jack came to Florida on their honeymoon and never left. While raising her family, Joanne was employed in several short-term teaching and office positions until she began teaching permanently at Merritt Island High School in the Business Education Department in 1971. She retired in 1990 as Chairman of that department.
Joanne was pre-deceased by her husband of 61 years Jack Strucher in 2015, and her brother Richard Williams of Fort Lauderdale in 2009.
She is survived by her three children: Kelly (David) Sheppard, Orlando; Karen (Larry) Lively, Port St. John; Mark Strucher (Tammy), Merritt Island, Florida. Five grandchildren: Grady Sheppard, Zackery (Brooke) Lively, Jessica (Brandon) Freeman, Tuscumbia AL, Kate Strucher, Atlanta, GA and Keri (Drew) Klaer, Atlanta, GA. As well as 4 great grandchildren.
