Joanne Patricia Masterson, 90, peacefully left this world at the William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay on June 3, 2019, after a short illness. She is survived by Brian, her husband of 68 years, her children Gavin (Albert J. Buckley), and Siobhan (Erik Johnke), as well as by her grandchildren, Dylan Patrick, Olivia Grace, and Brian Gabriel, all of whom she dearly loved. Her cherished son Colin preceded her in death in 2017. She is also mourned by many beloved nieces and nephews here and abroad and by her former museum associates and many friends here and in Sayville, Long Island, where she lived previously.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Anne McLoughlin and brothers Alfred and Richard. She was born on July 11, 1928, in Brooklyn, N. Y., was raised in Queens Village, and graduated as salutatorian from Catherine McAuley H.S. in Brooklyn before enrolling at Hofstra University. Joanne had many wonderful talents and interests – exceptional artist, museum docent, local ARC leader, inveterate reader and Sunday Times crossword solver, excellent cook, gardener – but to her family she will always be remembered as a very loving wife and wonderful mom and Nana, who would do anything for those she loved. She was a nurturer, first with her sons Colin and Gavin and then her daughter Siobhan. She became a fierce advocate for children such as her son Colin, who were born with learning disabilities. She will lovingly be remembered as a person of good will and generous disposition toward all.
