JoAnne Motycka, 68, of New Buffalo, Michigan, died Saturday morning, December 9, 2006, at LaPorte Hospital in LaPorte, Indiana after a long struggle with a progressive neurological disorder.
JoAnne was born on December 16, 1937, in New Buffalo, Michigan to Russell and Florence (Gable) James. She graduated from New Buffalo High School in 1956. On August 17, 1958, JoAnne married James Motycka, they made their home in New Buffalo, and for ten years lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico before returning to New Buffalo.
JoAnne was the owner and operator of JoAnne’s Able Mini Storage facility, and over the years had owned the Citgo Gas Station and Snack Bar and later the Dairy Castle in New Buffalo with her husband. She was a hard worker, assisting her husband with building many houses, several of which they called home.
JoAnne enjoyed bowling on the Thursday evening Ladies League at the Diamond Bowl in New Buffalo, playing cards with her family, camping, playing the slots at the Blue Chip, and baking cookies with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, James; daughters, Mary Jayne (Mark) Robertson of New Buffalo and Kimberly Dawn (John) Landess of New Buffalo, grandchildren, Jimmy and Codi Landess and great-grandchildren, Jaden and Lillyana Landess; sisters, Barbara Bolton of Three Oaks, Michigan; Sharon Motycka of New Buffalo; and Judy Bohne of Lakeside, Michigan; brothers, Richard (Marcella) James of New Buffalo; Terry (Karen Cummings) James of Three Oaks; Raymond (Jean) James of New Buffalo; and Gordon (Carole) James of New Buffalo; her sister-in-law, Sherry Johnson of New Buffalo and brothers-in-law, Ron Schroeder of Grand Beach, Michigan and Tony Motycka of New Buffalo, and many nieces and nephews.
JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Shirley Schroeder, brother, Larry James, brother-in-law, Glen Bolton, and nephew Rick Bohne.
