Joanne was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church and had a very strong faith in God. Joanne lived in Saginaw her whole life. She attended St Andrew Catholic School. She then attended Monticello College Preparatory School in Alton, Illinois, and then on to college at William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri. Much later in life, Joanne, at the age of 37 decided to go back to college to get her teaching degree, which she did. She continued her education while she was teaching and ended up getting her Master’s Degree from Central Michigan University. She was for most of her teaching career a much loved teacher at Westdale Elementary School in Saginaw Township. After retiring from teaching, Joanne went to work with her daughter, Lisa, at The Sugar Plum. It had long been a dream of hers to own a children’s clothing store after retirement and she spent many hours working there and enjoying the people she met while helping them shop for their children and themselves. Joanne like her husband was a lover of dogs. She still had their dog, Isabel after her husband died. Once Isabel passed away, Joanne would love when one of the family would come for a visit and bring one or more of their dogs with them. Joanne will be remembered by many for her ability to cook and bake. She was so very talented at both, and spent many hours watching the food channel honing her skills. Numerous times she would be called on for advice when one of the family was attempting to make one of her special dishes, or just needed to know how to prepare something. Those who knew Joanne knew of her love for her children and grandchildren. Their lives and accomplishments were a source of great joy for her and she was very proud of each and every one of them. But the real love of her life was always without question her adoring husband, Paul, they were such a team and did everything together and she missed him terribly. The family takes great joy in knowing they are together again. She was known to all of us as Mum and now she is with Da.
We would like to thank the caretakers at Oakmont Assisted Living and most recently Debbie Alger from Golden Care, but most importantly her son, Dr. Kevin Hanlon for all of the care given to her, and his two daughters Dr. Elizabeth Brooks and Dr. Katie Hanlon.
