Joanne Johnson, age 85, of Algona, Iowa died on Monday, July 21, 2014 at her home. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona, with Rev. John Thomas. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Algona. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Thursday at Lentz Funeral Home in Algona, with a 4 pm Rosary and a 7 pm Scripture Service. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Heartland or Friends of the Library. Joanne Jacqueline Dahl, the daughter of Milton and Isabelle (Sanftner) Dahl, was born on July 16, 1929 in Algona, Iowa. She graduated from Algona High School in 1947. Joanne was united in marriage with Loren Johnson on April 23, 1955 at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona and celebrated 54 years of marriage together.
She worked at Druggist Mutual in Algona until the birth of their first daughter in 1957. Joanne returned to work at Druggist Mutual in 1978 where she was a commercial underwriter until her retirement in 1994. Loren and Joanne moved to Wayside Farm in 1967 and they lived there until her passing in their home on July 21, 2014. Joanne’s interests included music, gardening, reading, collecting, and following all of her children’s and grandchildren’s activities and events. She was a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Algona. Joanne is survived by her three children: Julie (Brad) Greiman, Maplewood, MN; Dianne (John) Aboud, Algona; Keith (Julie) Johnson, Algona, and five grandchildren: Joshua (Shannon) Carver, Forest Lake, MN; Kelsey Carver, St. Paul, MN; Leslie Aboud, Davenport, IA, Johnny Aboud, Algona, and Derrik Johnson, Algona. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
