Joanne Elizabeth “JoJo” Niemi, 40, of Galesburg, died on Sunday, May 5, 2019, 1:54 AM, at Marigold Rehabilitation and Health Care, Galesburg. JoJo was born on November 27, 1978, in Glasgow, Scotland.
She was the daughter of Larry and Vera (Durnin) Abba-Niemi. She met Corey Marshall in 1997 and together they spent 22 years together. JoJo is survived by the love of her life, Corey, Galesburg; her father and step-mother, Larry Niemi and Helen Roberts-Niemi of Cottage Grove, TN; her five children, Tyler Lingwall, Margaret Lingwall, Kiarra Marshall, Corey Marshall, Christopher Marshall, all of Galesburg; a brother, Scott (Michele) Niemi of Springfield; six grandchildren, Noah, Tayah, Journey, Avery, Kaylee and Gavin; three nieces, Kayla, Nichelle and Kaitlyn; two nephews, Josh and Steven; good friends, Assunta McClure and her daughters, Roxanne and Yvonne of Upper Michigan; and her extended family in Scotland which consisted of six cousins, one aunt and one uncle, to whom she remained close with after moving back to the United States.
She was preceded in death by her mother, grandparents and an infant brother, Michael Tudruj. JoJo spent the first ten years of her life in Scotland. She was a homemaker. She loved children, especially her grandchildren. She loved to spend time with her family. She was a caring soul, who would take care of others’ needs before her own. JoJo was a wonderful listener and easy to talk to. She loved watching “Empire” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”
