Joanne Carter Greer, 89, passed away surrounded by loved ones on October 6, 2022. She was born January 18, 1933, in Garland, Utah to James Lawrence and LaVona Garn Carter. Raised on the family farm, she learned the value of hard work, laughter, and thriftiness.
She graduated from Bear River High School in 1951, where she participated in a capella choir, pep club and agenda council.
Joanne was briefly married to Denny Nicholas and later married Fay L. Greer on January 6, 1964, divorcing in 1992. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as the librarian of the Washington Terrace 10th Ward for many years. Joanne worked at Washington Terrace Elementary School retiring after 28 years of service.
Her hobbies included crochet, quilting, ceramics, shopping for antiques, and she enjoyed attending the opera with her sisters. Mom was loving, protective, and supportive; often sacrificing to ensure we were able to participate in our various activities. She loved her grandkids and gifted each one with a crocheted afghan.
Joanne is survived by her children; Jeff (Laurie) Nicholas, Jennifer Baird, Jeanette (Shane) Marberger, Jason (Jodee) Greer; 15 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, LaRene Maisak.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; Doris Maisak, Ralph Carter, and Marian Anderson, brothers-in-law, Vern and Roger Maisak, sister-in-law, Janet Nicholas Carter, and son-in-law, Todd Baird.
Mom recently moved to Legacy House Assisted Living and the family extends their appreciation to their staff and Inspiration Hospice for their care. Special thanks to Nurse Alisha for her skilled and compassionate care.
Mom’s honesty, generosity, and her great sense of humor will be remembered fondly by family and friends.
