Joann Ruth Hobson, 91 was born in Indianapolis on January 27, 1926 and received her angel’s wings on January 5, 2018. Joann attended Arsenal Technical High School and graduated from Shortridge High School in 1942. Joann moved to Southport in 1949 where she raised her family and lived in the same home until 2012.

Joann led a rich and full life and was surrounded by countless people whom she loved and who loved her.

Joann retired from the banking business in 1987. She began her career at the Southport State Bank and retired from the American Fletcher National Bank as an Assistant Branch Manager.  Joann was a longtime member and a Past-President of the American Business Women’s Association and was a member of the International Travel Study Club. Joann continued to stay busy after retirement caring for children and volunteering in connection with the Southport Presbyterian Christian School.

Joann was a talented musician, she played the violin, guitar, and the piano. Joann had a beautiful singing voice and sang with the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir for 15 years and was so proud to have performed with the choir at Carnegie Hall. She was most recently performing with Sisters in Song.

Joann was also known as a 2nd mom to many of her children’s friends and known affectionately as Grandma Hobson and Grandma Joann to many of the children she so lovingly cared for over the years.

Joann’s loving and caring nature made everyone she met feel loved and special. Joann was a special lady and will be sorely missed but no one will forget the love she had for each and every one of us.
