JoAnn Lenore Barzee

JoAnne was born on the 4th of October 1934 to Leo C. and Harriet Romer in Las Vegas, Nevada, as her father built the Hoover Dam.  In 1936 her family moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, where she was raised.  She loved to play the piano and loved to read.  She learned to sew at her mother’s side.  In 1951 she graduated from LDS seminary course and two months later lost her mother to tuberculosis. She met the love of her life and was married in 1952, and had four beautiful daughters. This gave her great joy as she sewed for them and dressed them from her hard-working hands.

In 1964 they were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple for time and all eternity.  In 1965 they moved to the sweet small town of Gooding, Idaho, where mom planted her feet and worked for 15 years at the Gooding County Hospital and another 15 years at the nursing home. JoAnn spent her life baking and decorating yummy, favorite cakes for her community of all sizes and shapes “Ye Old Cake Shop.”  They called her “The cake lady.”  She will be deeply missed by all. She will always be remembered by her wonderful sense of humor and her loving smile.

She is survived by her four daughters – DeeAnn (Frank) Aguado, Linda Andrus, G. Loraine Cross, and Julie (David) Carleton; nine grandchildren and 21 great- grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers – Leo N. Romer and Ray A. Romer; and her husband – Newell D. Barzee.
