JoAnn Christy, 84, passed away unexpectedly at her home early Friday morning. She was born in Muncie, the daughter of the late Earl and Alice (Waymire) Nelson.
She graduated from Royerton High School, with the class of 1949. She married Robert Christy on September 4, 1949. He preceded her in death on August 12, 2013, after nearly 64 years of marriage. A homemaker, she enjoyed assisting on the family farm, cooking for family and friends, and was an avid fan of IU basketball. She was a member of the Delaware County Farm Bureau, where she served on the board for several years, and the Matthews Euchre Club for over 40 years.
Survivors include son, John (Lisa) Christy, Gaston; two daughters, Marilyn (Mike) Conatser, Fairlawn, VA, Vickie (Mark) Walters, Upland; a brother Earl Nelson, Muncie; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. She was very close with her extended family, including the cousin’s lunch group.
