Joan Wilkinson, 66, of Hudson Lake, IN, passed away at 11:30am Monday, January 2, 2006 in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, IN, as a result of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

She was born on April 15, 1939 to the late Leonard and Gladys (Charles) Smith in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident of Hudson Lake, IN. Along with her parents; a granddaughter, Amanda Jones, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Wilkinson retired in 2000 from Easy Heat, Inc. in New Carlisle, IN, after seven years of employment.

On July 5, 1958, as Joan Smith, she married James J. Wilkinson at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church-Terre Coupee in New Carlisle, IN. He survives.

Along with her loving husband James, of 48 years; she is survived by three daughters, Cathy (husband Paul) Whalen of Hudson Lake, IN; Brenda Wilkinson of Edwardsburg, MI; Tanya (husband Robert) Wells of Hudson Lake, IN; three sons, Jerry (wife Connie) Wilkinson of Hudson Lake, IN; Terry Wilkinson of Hudson Lake, IN; Joseph Wilkinson of Hudson Lake, IN; 10 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy (husband Joe) Tabion of South Bend, IN; Donna (husband Duane) Dicus of Lakeville, IN; two brothers, Larry Smith of Rochester, MN; and Arthur (wife Gladys) Smith of Apache Junction, AZ.

Joan was very dedicated to her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She enjoyed many vacations with her children and motorcycle trips with her husband. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Joan was always willing to lend an ear or a hug to someone whenever it was needed. She was a strong- willed, feisty woman, who laughed and teased easily, and was never afraid of hard work. Joan will be remembered as a loving wife, friend and sidekick to her husband. She will also be remembered as a wonderful loving mother and friend to her children and grandchildren. Joan will remain in our hearts and our minds everyday of our lives.
