Joan Rochelle Bradley was born on April 29, 1958 to Phyllis Jansen at Fairchild AFB, Spokane, Washington. Joan was adopted by her grandparents, Walter and Thelma Jansen before Joan was in the first grade. They lived in a suburb of Spokane; Mead,Washington. Joan was always a bit shy growing up, but was mathematically and musically inclined.
