Joan Wipper of Boise passed away January 17th at home after long battle with cancer. She fought her disease with guts, grace, and determination. She was surrounded by family and friends.

She was born in 1958 in Corvallis, Oregon to Cathy and Wally Wipper. Her father’s career gave her the chance to live her early life in Oregon, Washington, and Nevada before finally settling in Boise.   She graduated from Meridian high and started working at Hewlett Packard and later Ada County. Joan had wide variety of interests, and would pursue them with weekend fun jobs. She hosted Nevada fun buses, poured wine at tasting events, and was a concession manager at Boise State events and concerts. She found her real passion when she enrolled in EMT training. This gave her the opportunity to surround herself with new friends who loved serving people and inspired her to complete CNA Certification. Her job at a St. Luke’s infusion center fulfilled her generous spirit. She continued to work during her illness – she loved and found strength from her patients and coworkers while she treated and was treated.  Joan felt her most important accomplishment was raising her wonderful children Sara and Danny.

Joan had a collection of nicknames: Pinky, Bones, Soany and loved good wine and dinners out with friends. She loved dressing for the occasions and once said she did not own a pair of jeans. Joan managed to hike, camp and fish without getting dirty. She enjoyed traveling and climbed Mt Borah to overcome her fear of heights.

She is survived by her parents, Wally and Cathy Wipper, her children Sara Smith (Evan) and Danny, brother  Dave Wipper (Julie and Audrey), sister Jane Norris (Jack), friend Kaia Pule and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
