Joan Nicholas Gildon was born in Morgan County on January 31, 1942 to the late Minnie Nicholas and the late Farmer Brooks. She departed this life on September 4, 2022 at her residence in Decatur, Alabama.
She attended and graduated from Lakeside High School. After graduation she went to work at Lurleen B. Wallace Development Center and North Alabama Regional, where she retired fromgtt , after serving many years. Mrs. Joan enjoyed working in the Home Health Care Field.
Joan is preceded in death by: a son, James A. Smith III; one stepson; Stanley Foster; one sister, Terry Orr; four brothers, Carl Orr, Tommy Nicholas, Bobby Nicholas and Collis Brooks.
She leaves to cherish her memory; a loving and devoted husband, Laron Gildon; six children, Beverly (Howard) Walton, Cleveland, OH, Angela Holmes, Decatur, Pamela Troupe, Decatur, Timothy Smith, Decatur, Tandy (Tammy) Nicholas, Huntsville, AL, and James (Julie) Orr of Hartselle, AL; five sisters, Gail Bojang, Huntsville, AL, Shirleen Ford, Decatur, Deborah Garner (Willie), of Moulton, Sharon Miller of Decatur, Anna Tapscott of Decatur; one brother, James Nicholas (Dutchess), Huntsville, AL; 50 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
