Joan Margaret Rourick, age 96, beloved wife of the late John “Jack” W. Rourick, entered into eternal rest at Connecticut Hospice in Branford on June 2, 2022 following a brief illness. Born on November 10, 1925, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Joan was one of seven children born to the late Herbert Butler and Elizabeth Reilly Butler.

A Stratford resident for six decades, Joan is survived by three daughters: Nancy Genga (Eddie) of Stratford, Colleen Mennillo (William) of Monroe, and Jacqueline Smith (Douglas) of Stratford; a brother, Donald Butler (Roberta), of Sebring, Florida; a sister-in-law, Irene Rourick of Bridgeport, CT; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. In addition to her late husband, Joan was also predeceased by five siblings and their spouses: Herbert Butler (Elizabeth); Francis Butler (Helena); John Butler (Margaret); Helen Mohyde (Leonard) and William Butler (Rae).

Outgoing and social, Joan will be remembered for her infectious laugh and wonderful sense of humor. Prior to her marriage in 1954, Joan was employed at the Southern New England Telephone Company (SNET). In 1958, she and her husband moved to Stratford where they shared a rich life, raised their daughters and were blessed with a 50-year marriage. Joan was extremely proud of her Irish heritage, found solace in her Catholic faith, cherished her home and loved reading and sharing mystery novels with her sister-in-law Irene and son-in-law Doug. Joan and her late husband enjoyed winters in Florida, vacationing on Cape Cod and summers at the shore in Lordship. Joan truly treasured time spent with her loved ones. She enjoyed swimming and was a member of the Stratford YMCA were she forged many long lasting friendships.
