Joan Marilyn Grant Cianciola, age 82, of Oxford,  passed away peacefully on December 7, 2022 in Griffin Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was born in New Waterford, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada on May 6, 1940, daughter of the late John Steele Grant and Agnes Ramsey Grant. She moved to the United States at age 18, and although she had moved to Oxford, CT for the last few years, she spent most of her life in Stratford and was a member of Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Parish. They worked hard and enjoyed family, friends and travel. Joan became a U.S. citizen in 1989 after starting her family and working locally for many years. She retired from Majestic Gifts in Bridgeport, CT in 2001. Her interests included baking, crossword puzzles and trips to the casino. She was an avid game show watcher and a loyal fan of the New England Patriots and UCONN basketball teams. She also enjoyed crocheting and playing Michigan Rummy with her family. She is survived by, and was very proud of, her two children: Joseph J. Cianciola Jr. and his wife Gretchen Rauch Cianciola and Michael S. Cianciola and his wife Laura Cianciola, along with her grandchildren: Angus and Benjamin Cianciola, his partner Leela Seiceinski;  Melanie, and Kyle Cianciola, who will all miss her very much. In addition, Joan was predeceased by 6 siblings: Elizabeth “Liz” Cross, Helen Muise, Angus Grant, Mary Leadbeater, Keith Grant and John Grant.
