Joan L. Mooney, 91, of South Bend, IN, passed away peacefully at 8:45 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2022 at Story Point of Granger.

She was born on July 17, 1930, to the late Frank and Lucille  (Marszal) Schneider in South Bend, IN, and lived in South Bend her entire life.  Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Raymond Mooney in 2017; a daughter Peggy Mooney Welter in 1982; her sister Elaine Baumgartner and brother Frank Schneider, Junior.

Joan graduated in 1948 from Riley High School.  She was employed by the South Bend Tribune for more than 40 years and retired in 2015.

On April 14, 1951, she married Raymond Mooney at St. Matthew Catholic Church in South Bend, IN.  

Joan is survived by one daughter, Sheila (Terry) McKinney of South Bend; two sons, Tim (Andrea) Mooney of Chicago, IL; Circus-Szalewski (Catherine) of Los Angeles, CA; four grandchildren, Tim, Justin, and Daniel Lane, Annie Mooney; two great-grandchildren, Adin Lane and Avlyn Lane.

Joan was an active member of St. John the Baptist Parish, where she participated in the Rosary Society, Choir, Camp Fire Girls, and countless church activities. Joan was also an ardent supporter of Right to Life.

One of Joan’s passions was traveling to religious sites around the world.  She visited the Holy Lands with her grandson and shrines in Fatima, Medjugorje, Rome, Lourdes, Paris, and Ireland.
