Joan Lee Mays Wilburn “Joanie”, 73
Ft. Pierce – Joan Wilburn passed on March 6, 2021, in Lake Worth, Florida. She was born November 15, 1947, in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Douglas and Fuchsia “ Toots” Mays.
Joan was a graduate of Wheelersburg High School Class of 1966. She worked for her father’s business for many years. She attended Shawnee State graduating with the class of 1978 as an EMT/ Paramedic. She ran Squad in Porter Township.
She moved to Florida in 1988 to be closer to her parents. She attended Indian River State College graduating with the class of 1995 earning her Nursing degree. Joan was extremely passionate about her career. She spent the last 26 years touching countless lives, going above and beyond for her patients, and was still actively working.
Joan was preceded in death by her only son, David Scott Morgan in 2008.
She is survived by her only daughter, Lora Lee Guion of Okeechobee; granddaughter, Mariah Lee “Riah” Charleston; grandson, Charles “Jr” (Ashleigh) Wilson; great-grandsons, Charles Wilson, III “Baby”, Asher Patrick-Scott Wilson “Peanut”, all of Okeechobee, Florida; special friend, John Wahl, of Ft. Pierce.
Joanie enjoyed spending time with her family, that’s what life was all about to her. She loved shopping, reading, drawing, coloring, gardening, and most of all helping others. To know her is to love her, she had a smile that could light a room and a contagious laugh. She was one of the most loving, caring, and selfless people you’d ever meet. Joan built special friendships with many over the years and was a great friend to have. She is in our hearts forever.
