Joan was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Mike and Ann Shelton. Her mother remarried later and traveled with her husband who was in the Army so her Grandmother and Grandfather (Nina and Will Fisher) took care of her in her younger years. Ann’s husband, Robert J. Agrelius, adopted Joan and was a loving father to her. Joan was married to Robert L. Wathen, Sr. for 23 years and they lived in North Denver. They had two sons, Robert, Jr. and Richard; they also lost two sons at birth. Joan was blessed with four grandchildren, Mitch and Tim from Bob and Kathy, Deona and Richard, Jr. are from Dick and Deena. She also had fourteen great-grandchildren. She would light up when she saw or heard from any of the grandchildren. Joan was active with the PTA and served as President of Denver PTA for elementary schools.
Joan married Don McNatt and they remained together for 40 years until her death. They loved to dance and travel and support Moose activities. Don took wonderful care of her and was at her beckoned call the last few months of her life.
Don and Joan dedicated much of their lives to Moose Lodge 21 where she loved helping the community and Moose charities. Joan served on the College of Regents from 1990 to 2012. She was the Deputy Grand in 1987 and the Past Grand Regent in 1998. Anytime the Lodge was involved with the children she was at the, she was at the party wholeheartedly. Christmas and Easter parties she loved. She was involved with the Women of the Moose and she was quite active. The International Moose conventions brought her friends from all over the nation.
Her many friends at Lodge 21 meant the world to her and they supported her throughout her time at the Lodge.
