MacLagan, Joan Kaye Emig-Steele passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2014, in the presence of her family and friends. She was born on January 6, 1949, in Kalamazoo.
Joan graduated from Parchment High School, Kalamazoo Valley Community College, and worked as a Corrections Officer for Kalamazoo County Sheriff Department for 27 years. Joan was a strong-minded, strong-willed, and spirited woman. She was a true mother, friend, partner, and sister in blood and bond.
Surviving are her three children, Daniel, Nicole, and Kacie; three grandsons, Damian, Harrison, and Christian; brother, John Steele; and many “adopted” children and siblings. Joan returned to the loving arms of her grandparents, Willard and Ferne Mae Gildea Beck, and her parents, Carville Emig and Lucille Beck-Emig Steele.
