Joan Hammel, 81, passed away December 27, 2012 in Canon City, CO. She was born February 11, 1931 in Denver, CO to Lucille and Harry Amen, Sr. Joan was the Canon City Blossom Festival Queen in 1949. On October 16, 1949, she was united in marriage to Harold Hammel in Santa Fe, NM. She enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Shadow Hills Golf Club. She also volunteered for the Special Olympics. Joan is survived by her children, Harold Hammel Jr., Laura (Jim) Kern, Carol (Michael) Nieslanik, and Kurt (Holly) Hammel; grandchildren, Nicholas (Tiffany) Nieslanik, Lindsey Kern, Courtney (Justin) Ellis, and Bayley Hammel; great grandchild, Ephraim Nieslanik; and sister, Phyllis (Joseph) Duca. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; parents; and brothers, Harry Amen Jr. and Richard Amen.
