Joan Dorothea LaPlace passed away peacefully on June 17th with her family by her side. She was a resident of Royal Oaks Nursing Home in Titusville, FL, for the past five-and-a-half years.
Joan was born in Staten Island, NY, to Robert McManus and Laura Nedwidek McManus. Her father was career Coast Guard, and Joan attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, when her family resided in Portsmouth, VA.
As a teen, Joan met her future husband, Jean Marcel LaPlace, when they were neighbors on Utter Avenue in Staten Island. They married in 1951, in Cape May, NJ, and Joan became a military wife while Jean served in the United States Marine Corps. They raised their four daughters while stationed in many locales across the U.S., and notably spent three years in Yokosuka, Japan.
