 Joan D. Carter “Grizzly” passed away on Friday September 24, 2021 at the age of 73, held by her sons and surrounded by her family.

Joan was born July 7, 1948 in Salt Lake City to Charles H. Bottom and Mary Lucille Asbridge Bottom. She graduated from Roy High school class of 1966. She attended Weber State College studying Anthropology; as life threw challenges at Joan, she became a paralegal working for David Knowlton and later John Hutchison. After that she transitioned to the State of Utah working as an Investigator for the Labor Commission where she worked until she retired. She was very proud of her work and received a special commendation personalized by Governor Jon Huntsman.
She loved camping with her husband Lynn Carter, dogs and their many friends and family. She loved to quilt, embroider cards and crocheting. She was in the process of crocheting hats for her fellow cancer patients. She loved history, she could tell you about all sorts of historical events with excellent detail and accuracy. She loved people, everywhere we went she always knew somebody or made friends. She loved being a grandma and spending time with her grandchildren Sydney and Breanna. She was always very proud of her sons and excited about their accomplishments.
She will be deeply missed by her husband Lynn of 38 years; children Gary L. Dunn, Joshua Russell (Gemalyn), Jeremy Carter; grandchildren Sydney Russell, Breanna Russell, and Katelynn Carter; brother Robert Bottom (Cheryl).
She was predeceased by her parents Charles and Mary, in-laws Dale and Della; brother Charles (Chuck) and niece Sarah.
