It is with tremendous sorrow that we report the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, friend, piano teacher and mentor, Joan B Craft, nee Norwood, (previously Joan Young). Joan died on March 2, 2015 six weeks after being diagnosed with lung cancer and she was 76 years old.
Joan was born in Springfield, MA., grew up in Rockport, ME and was a graduate of Rockport High School in ME and Charter Oak College in CT. As Joan Young she was a Groton piano teacher and was employed by the State of Connecticut in the Department of Probation.
In 1986 she married Raymond Craft and moved to Delaware where she worked in the Department of Mental Health as a CASA Volunteer Coordinator. Joan established a home piano studio and continued to teach students until her illness. Joan was a prominent piano teacher in Milford, Delaware and will be greatly missed by her students.
Joan is predeceased by her husband, Raymond Craft and a son, Mark Norwood Young. She is survived by children Meridith Walworth and Michael Young, both of Connecticut. She has four grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by step-children Nancy Craft of NC and Steve Craft of MA. She has 2 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren.
