Joan Ruby Brown, nee Gensler, 81, of O’Fallon, IL, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2014, at Rosewood Care Center in Swansea, IL. Joan was born on July 22, 1933, in San Diego, CA.
She worked for over 33 years in federal civil service primarily as an Administrative Assistance. She attended the First United Methodist Church in O’Fallon, IL; and was a member of the Candle Light Circle, a member of TOPS, and participated in PSOP activities. She was married to Phillip E. Brown (CMSgt, USAF, Retired). They were married on April 12, 1974, in Las Vegas, NV. During her husband’s Air Force career they were stationed in California, Alaska, Arkansas, Germany, Florida, England, Wash DC, Japan, and finally at Scott AFB. With Joan’s outstanding personality, she could and did make friends anywhere, with anyone.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel & Ruby Gensler Sr., nee Kelly; and brother, Samuel Gensler II.
Joan is survived by her husband, Phillip E. Brown of O’Fallon, IL; children, James & Dana Papastathis III of Citrus Heights, CA, John Papastathis of Newnan, GA, and Joseph & Brigitte Papastathis of Clarksville, TN; grandchildren, La Donna Patrice Papastathis of Montgomery, TX, Alexis Jewell Papastathis of Montgomery TX, Corey Papastathis of Boulder, CO, and Adam Papastathis of Clarksville, TN; sisters, Marjory & Fred Howe of Hesperia, CA, and Barbara & Al Gies of Belvidere, IL; as well as numerous extended family members in Alabama, California, and Texas.
