Boss, Joan M. (Griffin) 4/16/30 – 7/14/17
Passed away in her home in Colorado Springs, CO.
Joan was born in Rochester, NY, the daughter of Adrian and Dorothy (McCormack) Griffin. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond, her brothers Donald and Robert, her daughter Linda Halliday and her son Robert. Joan is survived by her sister Patty (Francis)Tadak, her children Karen, Nancy (Tim) Powers, Mary (Al) Winzenried, Christopher (Laura), Katie, her son-in-law John Halliday, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Through her life, Joan was a generous care giver to those she knew. Her family, neighbors, and friends knew her generous nature – and benefitted from her skills and care as excellent cook, gardener, seamstress, craftswoman, friend, and shoulder to cry on. She was a meticulous book-keeper, and several elderly relatives trusted her with the care for their financial affairs. In reality – this was simply one of many ways that she tirelessly loved and cared for them in their later years. Neighbors and friends knew Joan as a seamstress and turned to her for any kind of alteration work. For a time she held a job as a mentor and teacher through New York State’s WIC program, sharing her knowledge and experience of child rearing, nutrition, and home making with young mothers.
As a Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, these same traits were multiplied. Along with Her husband Ray, their love was easily seen, felt, and realized by all of us children in the way that they cared for us, cared about us, and worked to provide for us.
Joan was a fun loving child at heart. She enjoyed spending time with family camping, playing cards, sitting around the fire singing, biking with her friends, and eating ice cream.
