Joan Barbara McLaren and Leslie Norman Bullas celebrated 45 years of marriage, wed on November 12, 1970. They are together again as Joan passed away peacefully on August 9, 2017, joining Leslie, who passed away October 19, 2016 after complications from a fall. Les and Joan Bullas were cared for at Brookdale, Greenwood Village, Colorado but called Heather Gardens in Aurora, Colorado and Rincon Trailer Park in Tucson, Arizona home. Joan was born August 1, 1931 in Springfield NJ to John Joseph and Marion Frances Kerr McLaren, the youngest of four (Phyllis McLaren Murphy, Lillian McLaren McDaniel and John J. McLaren JR). Beloved aunt and friend Joan Bullas RN, MA enjoyed a fulfilling career as a cardiac care nurse, instructor and author of multiple medical publications. Her career highlights include Director of Nursing at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove IL, Cardiac Clinical Specialist at Rose and the Veterans’ Administration Medical Center in Denver CO, and Professor at University of Colorado School of Nursing (1983-1988). She was a woman of many talents from golfing, music to painting. Joan is survived by several nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her keen humor and her love of life. Les was a beloved son, husband, cousin, uncle and friend. He was born on August 6, 1926 in Toronto Ontario Canada as an only child to Fred and Rhoda Bullas. Les came to the United States in 1953 for work in Illinois. He had a long and fulfilling career as a computer programmer for United Airlines (1955-1988). This allowed him to travel the world where he met his wife, Joan, while skiing in Zermatt Switzerland. Les was an avid traveler, camper/fisherman, skier, photographer, casino player and an astute investor. First and foremost, he was proud to be a Canadian! Les is survived by his cousins Doreen Batterbury and Stuart Bullas, as well as several nieces and nephews. His slow smile and keen wit will be sorely missed.
