Joan A. Smida, 81, of Bethlehem, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 30, 2015, in Bethlehem. She was the wife of Frank G. Smida, Jr., with whom she celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on November 27, 2014. Born in Kunkletown, Joan was the daughter of the late Albert and Verna (Lessig) Smith. After graduating from Palmerton High School, she attended Bethlehem Business College. She enjoyed many years with family and friends at their lake house in the Poconos. Joan enjoyed raising her family, and was often seen with her friends at the Fitness Center at the Hanover Township Community Center. Joan was a member of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church, and of the Red Hat Society. She loved all of her family, her children and grandchildren, and will be dearly missed by all. Survivors: her husband, Frank; son Thomas F. Smida and his wife, Mary Ann of Harrisburg; daughters, Patricia A. Graziano and her husband, Frank of Buffalo, NY, Kathryn A. Williams and her husband, David of Bethlehem; grandchildren Andrew and Emma Williams, and Timothy and Jeffrey Graziano; Joan’s twin sister, Janet L. McFarland and her husband, Clayton of Marlton, NJ and a brother, Glenn A. Smith of Albuquerque, NM; many nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her son, Richard D. Smida, in 1977.
