Jo K. Haniford passed away September 20, 2008 in Rensselaer. She was born March 6, 1922 in Monon, IN and was the daughter of the late Raymond S. Bundy and Laura Gladys Minch Bundy. Jo came to Renssealer in 1926. She was a 1940 graduate of Rensselaer High School and the DePauw University School of Music in 1944. On September 16, 1945, in Rensselaer, she married D’Maris Gerrard Haniford who passed away May 11, 1981. Jo was a teacher of elementary music in Anderson and from 1968-1975 with the North Newton School Corporation.

From 1945-1949 she was Director of Music for radio station WBAA, Purdue University. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Rensselaer and active in community affairs. She was past president of Kappa, Kappa, Kappa, ex Regent of the DAR, member of the Ladies Literary Club, Jasper County Republican Women and Curtis Creek Country Club. From 1967-1971 she was a member of the Rensselaer Central School Board of Trustees, serving as secretary.

Jo was the first woman to be selected to the Rensselaer City Council, being elected in 1975, 1979 and 1983. She is survived by a daughter, Kathy (Robert) Clouse, Midland, MI and a granddaughter, Thea (Timothy) Gawronski of Grand Rapids, MI.
