Jimmy Rex Thurmond, age 76, of Greensboro, GA died Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Kindred Hospice IPU in Athens, GA. A lifelong resident of Greene County, he was born on December 28, 1941 in Greensboro to the late Pope Thurmond and Bertha Channell Thurmond. He graduated from Greensboro High School in 1960.
Jimmy is survived by his children, Melanie Burt of Greensboro, GA, Angela Ellington and William Ellington of Athens, GA and Jim Thurmond and Celeste Talley of Watkinsville, GA; sisters, Sonya Garner and Dennis Garner, Ruth Thurmond and Geneva O’Neal and Albert O’Neal; five grandchildren, Nicky Johnson and Jason Johnson, Jacob Callaway and Katy Callaway, Chasity Allen, Carrie Bilbo and Tanna McPherson; six great grandchildren, Katherine Gabriel, Beau Gabriel, Taylor Allen, Tennett Allen, Graceland Bilbo and Sara Frances Callaway; loving partner, Betsy Yancey and extended family Bobby Cox, Julie Wright, Caroline and Cameron. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ronda Thurmond; brother, Billy Thurmond and sister, Judy Thurmond.
