Former owner of Rollarena Skating Rink
Jimmie “Jim” L. Bateman, 77, of Alamogordo, NM, passed away April 23, 2007, in El Paso, Texas. He was born April 2, 1930 to Everett and Flo Bateman in Jenks, Oklahoma. Jim joined the United States Air Force in 1948 and was honorably discharged in 1952. He then went to Oklahoma A & M College and graduated as an Electrical Technician in 1956. Jim worked for LandAir for 16 years and then retired from LandAir to own and operate the Rollarena Skating Rink for 36 years. He retired from the Rollarena in 1993.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dolores J. Bateman, of the family home. Jim had three sons, a deceased 2-day old infant, Jimmie Lee Bateman, Jr, Raymond L. Hay, Jr., of Albuquerque, Ronald G. Hay and his partner, Rick Lawyer, of Jarales, NM; a daughter, Pam Hay Grinstead and her husband, Mark, of Alamogordo; grandchildren, Kara Comte and Donnie Hay, both of College Station, TX, and Cole Grinstead of Alamogordo ; three great-grandchildren, Austin Kyle Comte, Kayla Suzanne Comte, and Sydney Elizabeth Hay; a brother, Jack R. Bateman, of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; aunts, Alma Lachs, of Lee’s Summitt, MO, and Iva Turinsky, of Broken Arrow, OK; nephews, Dennis Turner of Independence, MO, and Danny Bateman of Valley Mills, TX; nieces, Mary Jane Harves of Independence, MO, Tammy Bateman of Sand Springs, OK, and Theresa Bateman of Sand Springs, OK. He also leaves his beloved cats and birds of the family home.
