James “Jim” McPhee, 69, of Flagstaff, AZ, passed away on June 29, 2016 in Gilbert, AZ surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was married to the love of his life, Fran, and they shared almost 48 years together.
Born in Sheridan, WY, he was the pride and joy of John McPhee and Margaret McPhee Rygg. He was a “jack-of-all-trades”, finding success in many different career fields. He worked to play and most enjoyed his time as a professional volunteer. He served with pride with Lions Club International, Knights of Columbus, Hope Crisis Pregnancy Center, among many other organizations.
He will be remembered most for his unconditional love to all he knew, his giving nature, his wonderful laugh that filled rooms, and his strength and kindness.
He is survived by his wife, Fran, daughter Kelly McPhee, both of Flagstaff, AZ, daughter Johna (Matt) Spigel and grandchildren Jackson, Alyssa, and Lucas , all of Gilbert, AZ; siblings Sharon Thurston, Carol (Jim) Williams, Suzanne McPhee, Raymond Rygg, Myron (Jeannie) Rygg, Thomas (Jackie) Rygg, Philip Ryan, and Robert Otto; as well as numerous, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Jim is also survived by more friends than we can count. He is joined in death by his parents, John McPhee, Margaret Herbst McPhee Rygg, and William Rygg, and siblings Patricia McPhee, Nona Otto, and Isabel Ryan.
