Jim Carter, 73, of Centralia, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2019 at his home. He was born December 13, 1946 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, the son of Carl Carter and Louann (Williams) Carter.

He married Linda Campbell on October 5, 2002 and she survives in Centralia. In addition to his wife of 18 years, Linda Carter of Centralia, he is also survived by two sons: Reuben Myers and Michael ; three step-children: Jerry Smith, III and special friend Jerrie Brown, Heather Ann Hilton, and Kevin Lee Smith and girlfriend April Smith; 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; a brother: Mike Carter of Centralia; a sister: Anita Spano of Texas; a sister-in-law: Lori Campbell Dillon and husband Robert of Centralia; a brother-in-law: Robert Campbell of Centralia and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Benny Carter, a sister: RoseAnn Temple, and step-granddaughter: Kortney Nicole Smith-Kesterson.

Jim served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He had a green thumb and loved to garden. He also enjoyed working outdoors and feeding the birds. Jim was a handyman for the Linda & Vernon Harris Rentals. He was a good-hearted man and would do anything to help. He was also a devoted husband.
