Jim B. Barnes, 79, of Jacksonville, died Thursday, March 12, 2015, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He was born Feb. 4, 1936, in Jacksonville, the son of James Allen and Edna Lear Barnes. He was first married to Loretta Ann Nash. He later married Patricia Clancy O’Hara on Aug. 13, 1988, at Wayfarer’s Chapel in Palos Verdes, CA, and she survives.

He is also survived by five sons and three daughters, James J. Barnes of Mercersburg, PA, Jack O. (Cryssia) Barnes of Bellflower, CA, Larry (Robin) Barnes of Jacksonville, Lori (Brad) Bergschneider of Franklin, Alex (Gay-Lynn) Barnes of Los Alamitos, CA, Aimee (Andy) Lopez of Los Angeles, CA, Sean (Kathy) O’Hara of Chatham, and Erin (Jim) Wischmeier of Imperial, MO; seventeen grandchildren, Jacqueline, Jennifer and Jason Barnes, Anthony and Alexander Barnes, Kirsten, Chase, Devon and Jagger Bergschneider, Christian Casper, Colby and Dylan Barnes, Alexis and Erica Gazda, Alyssa and Tiffany Wischmeier, and Christopher Seebeck; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Jack (Ewa) Barnes of Las Vegas, NV; a step-sister, Karen (Bobby) Harrison of Glen Saint Mary, FL; and a special cousin who was like a sister, Loice Barnes of Palm Desert, CA. He was preceded in death by his father; and his mother and her husband, Edna and Frank Gregory.

Mr. Barnes was a 1954 graduate of Jacksonville High School and then attended University of Illinois. He took over the family business, Barnes Vendors, Music & Games upon his father’s death in 1991. He also purchased Cater-Vend in 1995. He was a member of Church of Our Saviour. He was a car enthusiast and an avid coin collector. He loved taking road trips, hunting, camping, and nature. Jim was supportive and generous toward local charities and veteran’s organizations, and was a member of the NRA. He knew everybody, and everybody knew him. He truly loved being with his family.
