Jill Noreen Hughes, 67, of Moberly, died Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. Jill was born October 2, 1949, in Moberly to Oscar and Frances Nathalie (Fristoe) Wilson.
She graduated from Keytesville High School, and then attended Moberly Area Community College and Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville; receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Education and two Master’s Degrees in Education and Administration.
Jill taught school for 26 years at West Park Elementary School. She was Principal for five years at North Park Elementary School, and Assistant Principal at Gratz Brown Elementary School for three years. She also served at Adjunct instructor for 11 years at Moberly Area Community College, and worked part time at the Little Dixie Regional Library.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Phi Delta Kappa. She was also Vice President of Community Teacher Organization, Missouri Association of Elementary School Principals. STARR Teacher of the State of Missouri, Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year, Missouri State Teachers Association, and was co-founder of the Spartan Tutoring. and DESE. Jill was curriculum chairman for Language Arts and Math. She also received the Moberly Public Schools Distinguished Teacher of the Year.
Jill married Donald Hughes Jr. on May 29, 1971, and he survives. Also surviving are her children Angela Jordan and husband Maverick; Lamika Hughes, and Landon Hughes and Kelly Snodgrass all of Moberly; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister Sheila Francine Wilson-Madden and husband George of Petersburg, IL; a brother Sam Wilson and wife Margaret of Moberly; other relatives, former students and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents James and Sammie Fristoe.
Jill loved spending quality time with her family and she loved to travel.
