Jewell M. Street, age 67, of Kalamazoo, MI, passed surrounded by family on December 21, 2019 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
She was born in Detroit on January 12 in 1952, the daughter of Jaffes and Hattie Mae (James) Mitchell. Jewell graduated from Northwestern High School Class of 1970 and graduated Western Michigan University Class of 1974 and later obtained her Master’s degree there. She was married to Hugh Street on May 15th, 1976 in Detroit.
Jewell had worked at Borgess Hospital for several years before working for Western Michigan University for 30+ years in the Office of Institutional Equity, helping and guiding fellow faculty and students alike.
Jewell had a servant’s heart and a talent for finding the perfect gift for her friends and family. Many who knew her will remember her talent for baking. In her free time, she found great pleasure planning awesome family vacations, scrapbooking, and researching her family genealogy.
Jewell is survived by her husband Hugh Street, their three children: Mitchell, Nick, and Sarah Street; her sisters Judy Carol Francis and Mary Conway; her cousins Helen and Hazel; her nieces and nephews: Jessica Brown, Lauder Francis, and Lorne Francis; and a host of other loving cousins, nephews and nieces. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her brothers Frazier Brown and Charles Brown, and her sister Julia Ann Mitchell.
