Jewel Young Dodson, 86, of 1440 Country Ridge Road, Bassett, VA died Thursday, April 22, 2010 at Franklin Health and Rehab., Rocky Mount, VA. She was born on August 12, 1923 in Franklin County, VA to the late Jesse Ozwald Young and Betty Mae Bradley Young. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Everett Dodson; daughter, Selma Rebecca Dodson Greer Dudley; sisters, Violet Young Brown and Velma Young Starkey and brothers, Odell Young, Reginald Young, Hassell Young, James Young, Conrade Young and Angus Young. Mrs. Dodson was a member of the Fork Mountain United Methodist Church, Bassett, VA. She was a retired upholstery sewer for Bassett Mirror (Philpott Plant). Surviving are her daughter, Brenda Simpkins Gann of Floyd, VA; sons, Jesse Dodson of Stuart, VA, Paul Dodson and Carl Dodson both of Bassett, VA; nine grandchildren, Karen Price, David Dodson, Stephen Dodson, Larry Dodson, Carl Dodson, Jr., Tim Greer, Anthony Simpkins, Sabina Gallimore and Benjamin Simpkins; nineteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and special friend, Doris Mecado of Bassett, VA.
