He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Serrata in 1995; stepson, Felipe Olivarez in 2002; brother, Juan Jose Serrata in 1975; parents, Matias Serrata and Agapita Renteria; and father-in-law, Ambrosio “Bocho” Garza.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 33 years, Beatriz G. Olivarez; children, Jesse Joe (JJ) Serrata, John Paul Serrata, Sebastian Escobar, Johnny Joe Serrata, Brandy Bee Serrata, and Nellie Olivarez; 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; 4 brothers, Mathias Serrata, Rene Serrata, Abel Serrata, and Frankie Serrata; 4 sisters, Delia Mendoza, Nora Kitong, Sylvia Trevino, and Mary Esther Stephens; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
