Jesuel James “Jim” Wrast, 89, passed away January 6, 2013 in Canon City, CO. He was born July 30, 1923 in Libertyville, IL to James and Renee (Beaumont) Wrast. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII. During his tour, he was involved in two invasions, one in New Guinea and one in Luzon (Philippines). After his discharge in 1946, Jim married Shirley Hicks. Mr. Wrast was a field engineer for 32 years with International Harvester. After his retirement in 1978, Jim and Shirley moved to Canon City, CO. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 4061. His hobbies included woodcarving, gardening, and tinkering with small engines. He was a fan of the Indianapolis 500, missing only 2 races in 50+ years. Jim and Shirley would spend 6 months a year at Corpus Christi, TX, where he loved to surf fish in the Gulf of Mexico. Jim is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley; son, Richard (Roxy) Wrast; grandchildren, Jenny (Christopher) Oakley, Jon (Whitney) Wrast, Lisa (Rickey) Bryan, and Mark (Monica) Wrast; great grandchildren, Jordan, Breeyn, Tanner, and Trever; brother, William Wrast; brother-in-law, Robert Hicks; and close family friends, Lynette and Caroll. He was preceded in death by his son, James R. Wrast on December 8, 2012.
