Jessica Alene Bates, 77, of Salem, Arkansas, passed from this walk of life on Saturday, June 5, 2021, in Mountain Home, Arkansas.

She was born in Batesville, Arkansas on March 10, 1944, daughter of the late Jesse and Leola (Webb) Burns. Alene spent her life as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was united in marriage to the late Russell Bates on May 19, 1962, in Franklin, Arkansas and from this union one son was born. Alene received a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Arkansas State Teacher’s College in Conway, Arkansas. She taught Home Economics at Valley Springs. Alene worked for the University of Arkansas Department of Agriculture as the Extension Agent for 21 years before retiring for Marion and Fulton County. She loved her family and her animals. Alene always had cats and dogs and her most loved dog, Lucky. She loved working with people. Alene was a member of Salem First Baptist Church.

Alene is survived by her son, Scott Bates and wife Elsy of Collierville, Tennessee; granddaughter, Alina Bates of Collierville, Tennessee; sister, Connie McGinnis and husband Bill of Franklin, Arkansas and sister-in-laws, Mary Bates Stringer of Athens, Alabama and Belle Bates of Plaindealings, Louisiana.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Bates and parents, Jesse and Leola Burns.
