Jerry was born on March 24th, 1954 in Caldwell County to the late Reverend Roy E. Brown and wife, Virgie Ella Brown. 

 

Mr. Brown was a graduate of Gamewell-Collettsville High School and Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. Jerry began his teaching career in Lenoir at the former Willow Street Middle School.  Jerry later moved to Charlotte and began his teaching career in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System in 1979.  Jerry started his career as a teacher, then was promoted to vice-principal of Spaugh Middle School and later retired as the principal of Biotech Olympic High School on June 30, 2008. After retirement Jerry began his next chapter in life as one of the owners of Petra’s Piano Bar in Charlotte. Jerry was a fierce advocate for Plaza Midwood, not only as a neighbor, but also as a local small business owner, with a passion for ensuring our community was thriving and safe. He was one of the earliest champions of Stonewall Kickball in Charlotte.  Jerry loved his community and strived to make a difference in everything that he believed in.

Survivors include two brothers, Ronald Brown and wife Judy of Lenoir; Kenneth Brown and wife Kathy of Lenoir; sisters, Linda Gilreath of Wilkesboro; and Evelyn Teague and husband David of Lenoir; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry also leaves behind many dear friends that he considered his surrogate family.
